Most courts require that the driver maintain the SR-22 certificate be in effect for a minimum of three years. If the guilty driver moves to another state, he or she must maintain SR-22 insurance in the limits and for the term as ordered by the court in the driver’s current state. The repercussions of failure to comply, wherever the driver resides, are most serious. At the very least, the state will revoke the driver’s license and take more stringent action.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued compelling information that reflects a slower than expected decline in total driving fatalities and a slower than expected downturn in alcohol-related fatalities. Of total auto fatalities, the percentage of alcohol related fatalities has remained at 37 percent since 2006 or more than 13,500 per annum.
The states with the highest alcohol-related auto fatalities are Texas (43 percent), followed by California (35 percent) and Florida (35 percent). The percentage of alcohol-related auto fatalities is highest in South Carolina (50 percent) and Louisiana (44 percent).
In response, the legal system has set much more aggressive enforcement action fro DUI/DWI offenders. A motor vehicle crash is considered to be alcohol-relocated if at least one driver or non-occupant (including a pedestrian) or a pedalcyclist is involved in the crash and has a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .01 grams per deciliter (g/dL) or higher. An automobile operator is considered under the influence or impaired if the BAC is .08 or greater.
